A Walk in the Woods (by Jan Elgroth Talvinen)
Some time ago in the woods of old
- they stand there as long as can be told -
I wandered through - an amazed child
The place so pure and everything but wild
- a place I found impossible to be.
A small meadow, mirror of the sun
Appeared there - I was startled, stunned
The grass so green, blossom everywhere
Light most clean and vividest the air
- an experience never known to me.
A moment passed, uncovered this being
A harp in hands and softly she was singing
Beauty divine, never one could mend
Her charm - too soft to comprehend
- if in some dread be it ripped apart
Eyes of light green, like the forest sigh
Hair a waterfall of stars in summer skies
Hands pale white like spring's misty dawn
Tender voice and moving like a tone
- my heart fainted, struck by beauty's dart
She sang alone dancing round the glade
Never missed a tone and never cast a shade
Never kicked a stone and never broke a stalk
Fairily she moved, like spring breezes walk
- threw me in love that never true could be
The time came, her song was sung - the end
She noticed me, smiled and raised her hand
Waved good bye and left me to my moods
Turned away and vanished in the woods
- to see her again I never found the key.
